Although a country with mighty oil and gas reserves, this year its struggling economy has resulted in widespread food shortages. Turkmenistan makes its name as one of the most isolated and consolidated authoritarian regimes in the world. It lacks basic freedoms, judicial independence, accountable institutions, and it discriminates against ethnic minorities. Turkmenistan’s dictator seeks to control every aspect of life. The government justifies its tough methods by a need to prevent an escalation of radical Islam and to parry security threats posed by the Taliban and the Islamic State. Though Turkmenistan has a persecution ranking of only 19, the country is still one of the world’s most oppressive. Christians are often labelled as “extremists” and face persecution from authorities and local communities.

Praise Report
Praise God for ministries that help equip and train young Turkmen Christians to know their faith well and share it with others (The Bible, Luke 12:8).

Prayer Requests
According to Human Rights Watch, "Turkmenistan is one of the most repressive countries in the world." Pray for an end to the totalitarian regime of President Berdimuhamedov (The Bible, Isaiah 10:13).
The government refuses to acknowledge its economic crisis, but unemployment is now at 50%, and food and gas shortages are now common (The Bible, 2 Corinthians 4:16-18).

Call to Salvation
In these uncertain and seemingly bleak times, pray that many will become aware of their spiritual hunger and find faith in Jesus Christ (The Bible, Ephesians 2:1-5).
