The Taliban now control more territory in Afghanistan than at any point since they were removed from power in 2001. They do not recognize the legitimacy of President Ghani's administration but have refused to hold direct talks with the Afghan government until a US deal is agreed. The deal includes the withdrawal of all US troops. Negotiations between the Taliban and the US administration appeared to be moving forward with a meeting planned at Camp David on September 8th. When a Taliban attack in Kabul on September 6th killed 12 people including one US soldier, the US withdrew from the meetings saying the Taliban should demonstrate greater commitment to a ceasefire.

Continue to bless this nation with peace and stability (The Bible, Psalm 37:11).
