In stark contrast to the young nation's turbulent past, East Timor peacefully transferred power to a younger generation of leaders in 2017. The country, also known as Timor-Leste, had a bloody 24-year resistance against Indonesian occupiers. It is separated from Australia by the Timor Sea, and the two continually squabble over oil and gas resources. This year an international tribunal mediated a maritime border dispute, with Australia relinquishing territory to East Timor. Half of the country still lives in extreme poverty. High levels of youth unemployment fuel gang violence. With nearly 97% of its population being Roman Catholic, it is one of only two predominantly Christian nations in Southeast Asia. Churches face no persecution.

Praise Report
Praise God for the resolution of the maritime border dispute. Pray that Australia will also hand over tens of millions of dollars in royalties from a gas field that now legitimately belongs to East Timor (The Bible, Psalm 18:24).

Prayer Request
East Timor has many social issues, such as poverty, a lack of infrastructure, illiteracy, and one of the worst malnutrition rates in the world. Pray that these issues will be effectively addressed (The Bible, Proverbs 28:19).
East Timor is predominantly Catholic with strong pre-Christian animistic mindsets. Pray that the Holy Spirit will bring renewal to the Church, transforming faith into something real and living (The Bible, Romans 12:2).

Call to Salvation
Ask God for a mighty outpouring of His Spirit across the nation, bringing many to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ (The Bible, Isaiah 44:3).
