Pray for Azerbaijan - facebook page

Azerbaijan has been riding the line for years between democracy and fiefdom. Its New Azerbaijan Party is accused of authoritarianism and bribery. It imprisons corruption-busting journalists and human rights advocates. Friction with neighboring Armenia over the disputed Nagorno-Karabakh disputed territory is ongoing. Though both Azerbaijan and Armenia have acquired new weapons, fears for imminent war have not yet materialised. Oil export revenues have aided the Azeri population, elevating living standards and increasing military strength. Yet, poverty and corruption plague the nation. Although Azerbaijan fell off the 2017 World Watch List, that is not because restrictions have eased. Raids and detention of Christians continue.

Praise Report
Praise God for brave Christians who have been bold to share the Gospel, resulting both in many hearing the Good News for the first time, as well as court cases and fines directed at them (The Bible, 2 Timothy 4:5).

Prayer Requests
President Ilham Aliyev named his wife, Mehriban Aliyeva, the First Vice President and placing her first in the line of succession. Ask God to shake the ruling powers of this nation (The Bible, Proverbs 24:16).
There is growing dissatisfaction among the general population about the state of their nation, and the lack of freedoms they experience. Pray that God will attract the dissatisfied to study the Bible (The Bible, Psalm 91:16).

Call to Salvation
Pray for many children and young people to come to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. They are the future of this nation (The Bible, Joshua 22:27).
